North Texas winters are mild until they are not, and the week they are not is the week every furnace in the county decides to quit. We service gas furnaces and heat pumps, and we price the repair the same way we price everything else — out of a book, before we start.
What we usually find
Furnace lights and shuts right back off
Almost always a dirty flame sensor. It is one of the cheapest repairs we do, and a lot of homeowners are quoted a control board for it.
No ignition at all
Hot surface igniter, gas valve, or a pressure switch that is seeing a blocked flue. The flue one matters — that is a safety issue, not an inconvenience.
Heat pump blowing cool air
Sometimes it is a defrost cycle doing exactly what it should. Sometimes it is a reversing valve or a failed auxiliary heat strip. We’ll tell you which, and we won’t quote you a system for something that is a component-level repair.
Blower runs, nothing gets warm
Heat strips out on a heat pump, or a furnace that is locked out on a safety. The lockout is there for a reason and it is worth finding out what tripped it.
The safety part, said plainly
If we find a cracked heat exchanger or a combustion problem, we’ll tell you straight, shut the unit down, put the condition in writing, and tell you to call Atmos. Whether it gets formally red-tagged is the gas utility’s and the inspector’s call, not ours. That is not a sales tactic — it is carbon monoxide, and we would rather lose the repair than take a chance with it.
